What Is Apple’s Recruitment Process?
Apple is an innovator, so its application process can vary. They accept online applications, but around 50% of their job candidates come from employee referrals, recruiters, and campus recruiting events. If you are interested in working for Apple, build up your network, and keep your LinkedIn profile looking professional and sharp. If you do apply online, highlight any special qualifications you have in your cover letter. You will need to create an online profile so you can save your job searches and receive alerts.
Apple’s Online Tests
Unlike some large corporations, Apple does not make frequent use of online assessment tests. There may be some positions that are given online assessments. These are generally given to programmers. If you are informed by Apple that you will need to take assessments, it may be one of these:
Aptitude Test – If you are going to be working in research and development, programming, or any other specialized feel, you may be tested on your abilities to perform the necessary skills. This could include writing a script in Java, or solving programming challenges, among other things.
Situational Judgment Test (SJT) – The situational judgment test is given to give an idea of how well you will perform in common work-place situations. You will need to either rank your answers by most to least likely or by “agree” or “disagree”.
Personality Tests – Apple places a great deal of emphasis on its brand image. You may be given a personality assessment to make sure that your personality is a good match for the Apple team.
In most cases, Apple uses their interviews as their assessments. The first interview will be conducted over the phone. This interview will be competency-based, and you will be asked questions about your past experience. You may be asked about why you are interested in joining the Apple team, and what you hope to achieve in your career.
Your next interview will be face to face but depending on the position you are interviewing for it may be given after an assessment centre. The second interview is also competency-based. Ideally, this interview will be at least 30 minutes long. They will be looking for candidates who show enthusiasm for the position, seem to fit well together, and who seem like they will be loyal to the company.
Apple’s Assessment Centre
Corporate or graduate applicants are the most likely to be asked to attend an assessment centre. You will be asked to participate in a few groups and individual activities on the day of the assessment centre.
Group Exercise – Candidates will be divided into groups and will be given a task to solve together. Each group will be observed to see how well they are able to work together to achieve a solution.
Written Exercise – Each individual is given a case study to examine. They will then need to analyze the problem and write about their conclusions.
Role-Play – Candidates will be split into pairs. Each pair will be role-playing Apple representatives, and a manager will be standing in as a customer. This will help demonstrate your ability to work with another person and come to a solution.
Final Interview – The assessment centre will end with a final behavioural interview. Since they have been observing you all day, you can expect to be asked questions about some of what the hiring team observed during the exercises.
